Tickets...or Gifts?

The Holiday season is about giving, and for police officers with the Superior Police Department in Wisconsin, it's not so much about giving tickets as it is about spreading a little kindness.

It's the fourth year that officers participated in their acts of kindness campaign. I've been able to go out with several different officers over the past three years of covering the initiative. The officers surprise people with gift cards on traffic stops or accidents and other places they see a person in need of help.

This year, I went on a ride along with Officer Bradley Jago with the department.

The first person he pulled over was Superior resident, Kate Miller.

Kate was on her way home from school when she got stopped.

"The reason I'm stopping you today, you probably don't even know, that you have a headlight out," said Jago during his encounter with Miller.

However, instead of a ticket, he let her off with a warning and another big surprise, a $20 Grizzly's gift card.

"This is a lot better than getting a ticket," said Miller.

The next surprise was for a man named Vincent Banks. He actually had his car stolen a couple months ago, in which they took his front license plate. The missing plate was the reason he was pulled over.

In lieu of a ticket, he was given a $20 gift card to VIP Pizza.

"I was presently surprised," said Banks."
